Evergreen flowering shrubs, leathery leaves, oval to obovate, sometimes toothed; usually slow-growing.

Uses

 Shrubbery, wall shrub, floral display.

Culture

Plant in a warm, sunny location, protected from extreme cold; prefers well-drained fertile soils, water freely in very hot weather. Prune off straggly shoots after flowering.

Propagation

Semi-hardwood cuttings taken in summer work best.

Cultivars

R. x delacourii: A small rounded shrub to 2m, glossy obovate leaves with toothed apex, panicles of rose-pink flowers in spring-summer.

Plant Health

Half-hardy and hardy; some are frost tender. Few pest and disease problems, but they may occasionally suffer from fungal leaf spot.
