Herbaceous perennial growing to 10cm from a tuber. Leaves are heart-shaped and dark green, typically with silver or light green markings. The pendant, mauve or pink flowers have five reflexed petals and occur on succulent stems in late winter.

Uses

Ornamental flower suitable for rockeries, garden beds and as a pot plant.

Culture

Suitable for full sun or part-shade in temperate climates. Prefers well-drained soil with a high organic content. Do not water when dormant during summer. If left undisturbed, tubers should produce more flowers each year. Propagate by seed in autumn.
