White Poplar

Fast growing deciduous tree 25m wide by 3m wide. Bark is grey-white. Lobed, oval leaves are silver on the underside. Male and female flowers are catkins, produced on separate trees in late winter. Fruit are capsules.

Uses

Suitable as specimen tree for parks and larger gardens. Also used for avenues and as a windbreak or screen. Timber is used for matches and packing cases.

Culture

Prefers full sun in moist, fertile, well-drained, alkaline soil. Tolerates frost. Propagate by seed, suckers or cuttings.
