Jew's Mallow, Japanese Rose

A native of China, this deciduous shrub grows to a height of 2.5 metres with a spread of 2 metres. It has ovate, bright green leaves with serrate margins and bears masses of yellow flowers in spring.

Uses

Ornamental shrub that can brighten up a shady spot in the garden.

Culture

Prefers part shade and rich, well drained soil. It is a cool climate species and very frost tolerant. After flowering, it is important to prune it back substantially. Propagate by cuttings or layering in summer, or division in autumn.
