Upright growth habit producing thick stems with few branches, topped with a rosette of leaves. Colour and size can vary, sometimes to 30cm tall.

Uses

Border plant, house plant, containers.

Culture

Prefers sandy loam or regular soil, needs some soil moisture, some species are frost hardy to around minus 1 degrees Celsius if conditions are dry. For optimum foliage colour, likes full sun in winter and some shade during summer.

Propagation

Sow sow in spring; rosette cuttings, taken in early summer and inserte in sandy compost once calluses have formed.

Cultivars

Several different named forms are commonly grown; with variations in foliage colour from green to dark reddish tones.
