Fast-growing annual plant to 75cm high by 30cm wide. Ovate-lanceolate leaves are mid or pale green. The dahlia-like purple flowers are 5cm wide and occur in summer and autumn. There are numerous varieties featuring white, yellow, pink, red and orange flowers.

Uses

Ornamental flowering annual suitable for cottage gardens, containers and as a bedding plant.

Culture

Grow in full sun in fertile, well-drained soil. Frost resistant. Deadhead regularly. Propagate by seed in spring. Germinate seeds under glass in cooler climates.
