Verbena x hybrida

Verbenaceae

Garden Verbena

Trailing, bushy, herbaceous perennial, often grown as an annual. Height and spread approx 15-20cm, depending upon the variety. The dark green leaves are furry, ovate to lanceolate and have prominent veins. Clusters of fragrant tubular flowers 25mm wide occur in summer and autumn. Flower colours vary from white, red, pink and purple.

Uses

Suitable for cottage gardens, rockeries, herbaceous borders and containers.

Culture

Grow in full sun in a temperate climate. Prefers well-drained soil. Avoid overfertilising as this will encourage leaf growth at the expense of flowers. Propagate by seed, cuttings or division.
