Fast-growing, evergreen perennial growing to between 30-60cm high and wide. The soft, fleshy stems feature red stripes and support ovate leaves. The five-petalled flowers are flattened and spurred. There are numerous cultivars, featuring white, orange, pink, red and lavender flowers.

Uses

Ornamental flower suitable for use as a bedding plant, in herbaceous borders, or as a pot plant. Can also provide colour when grown under trees.

Culture

Suitable for full sun or semi-shade in temperate or warm climates, Impatiens should be kept moist if grown in full sun. Prefers moist, well-drained soil. Protect from strong winds. Propagate by cuttings.
