Fast-growing, spreading, herbaceous climber or groundcover with a creeping rhizome that will grow to 3m high with support. The leaves are bright green with five or six ovate to obovate leaflets. The bright red flowers have four petals emanating from a tubular throat and occur in summer, followed by blue fruit.

Uses

Ornamental creeper with bright flowers, suitable as a groundcover in garden beds or as a climber on a trellis or other support.

Culture

Grows best in full sun and a temperate climate in well-drained soil. Will also grow under less suitable conditions. Frost tolerant. Propagate by seed. Susceptible to aphids and caterpillars.
