Hybrid between M. japonica and M. lomariifolia. Evergreen spreading shrub 2-3m high by 2-3m wide. Long green pinnate leaves with spiny leaflets. Yellow flowers are borne on racemes in late autumn. Berries are purple/blue.

Uses

Ornamental shrub suitable for garden beds or low windbreaks. Edible berries used for jam making.

Culture

Prefer full sun, cool temperatures, and moist, fertile, well-drained soil. In warmer climates they prefer partly shaded conditions. Frost and wind tolerant. Propagate from cuttings or suckers.
