Himalayan Honeysuckle

Although not a true honeysuckle, Leycesteria has a similarly sweet scent. It grows to a height of 2.5 metres with a spread of 2 metres. This deciduous shrub has purple and white flowers. It bears black berries that are almost enclosed in leafy pruple sheaths. Its leaves give great Autumn colour.

Uses

Ornamental and aromatic shrub.

Culture

Leycesteria does well in moderately rich, well drained soil. It prefers an open, sunny position and is frost resistant but drought tender. It can be propagated from seed or cuttings.
