Van Dusen Flower and Garden Show
If you visit British Columbia in Canada, don’t miss the 55 acre Van Dusen Botanic Gardens. It will take a good half day to see at any time; but during the annual Van Dusen Flower and Garden Show, you had better allow a day.!
Held in early summer each year, this is one of North Americas largest outdoor garden shows; with around 250 displays, plus a comprehensive program of lectures and entertainment.
June 10-13, 2004
The most recent show kicked off with a Gala Preview Party hosted by David Tarrant, one of Canadas leading gardening personalities, and and entertained by a full “swing” orchestra.
Apart from the standard garden show displays from featuring every type of nursery and garden product, the show also featured:
- Authors Corner
More than 20 different gardening and cook book authors wereavailable to talk to the public and answer their questions.
- Container and Basket Competitions
Everything from hanging baskets to toilet bowls were entered, brimming with colour and lush green foliage.
- Lectures
A full program of lectures was provided both during the show each day.
- Horticulture Pavilion
Large tent containing lots of garden clubs and specialist societies.
- Craft Pavilion
Featuring garden inspired works from more than 50 crafters and artisans.
- Themed Display Gardens
Landscaped experience taking you from the garden of Eden to the future.
- Master Gardeners Clinic
A garden advisory service manned by Van Dusen’s Master Gardeners.
- New Plant Introductions Pavillion
- Live Entertainment
A program of muscical performers from 11am till 6 daily.
- The Vancouver Sun Gourmet Gallery
Cooking demonstrations from some of Canadas great Chefs.
